How to get over fear of Vlogging
Posted by admin · 18 Comments
Even though a lot of people say they want to vlog - there's this thing called "fear" that's holding them back. Often times the fear comes from insecurities about the way they look or sound - others it's because they're shooting for perfection. In this vlog post I'll explain four tips that'll help you conquer your fear of video blogging!

excellent Lizzie!!! great tips. will give them a shot…….. as soon as i get over this awful cold!!!!!!!!
one thing, I don’t like the sound of my voice. i hate hearing myself on voicemails, videos, etc. your voice is so nice, smooth and girly. i feel like i have a deeper voice and i don’t like it!!
Hey, like the mute & turning away tip. Makes perfect sense to break it down to work on improvements. Gawd… there’s that word again – “perfection”. Yeah, I think us amateurs have the aesthetics at the forefront of our minds. Get over it, right? As you said before, we’re not super models. Wait, I thought I was… LOL! Great vlog!
Love your tips!
Just do it! The more we practice the better we get.
I am proof of that. My first video was awful.
I have learned so much along the way.
Great tips Lizzie. I’m just about to take the plunge into video and I think the most important takeaway is not to shoot perfection. That will be hard since I am a perfectionist! Gotta let go, gotta let go
Julia, embrace your uniqueness! I’m sure we can all find something wrong with ourselves – but that’s not the point of vlogging. Just be you – people will watch bc there’s only one Julia!
Ros, You’re beautiful!!! Now get vlogging already!!
Elena, I used to obsess about “perfection” but I learned to get over it. I usually just do my vlogs in one take unless my kids interrupt me. I actually think the “imperfection” is what makes vlogs so appealing – so let it go! Can’t wait to see your first vlog.
Great tips Lizzie! Will start tonight! Thank you.
Hi Lizzie,
I’ve been thinking (for a long time now) about taking the plunge and creating some videos. This tip couldn’t have come at a better time, thank you so much!
Lizzie,
Thank you for the great tips! I’m so glad that Elena sent me your Twitter to follow! I’m with Elena though … perfection! I always see these amazing videos with great edits and I get caught up in having to make them spectacular that they end up being old content by the time I finally have time to edit them!
I need to just forget about it and record – upload – share!
Thanks,
Alaina
I love this, Lizzie. You are my inspiration. Here’s a question. Is there an easy way to do the title and ending slides with music on iMovie? I am finding it… counterintuitive! Also, are there good and bad color choices to wear? I know the old recommendations, but wondered what people are saying now.
Annette, Yvette and Alaina, Thanks so much for checking out my vlog on vlogging. Time for you gals to step away from the keyboard and pick up those cameras! Can’t wait to see your vlogs:)
Hollee, you are so sweet! I do have a bit of a head start on everyone since I worked in tv for 15+ years. I’m not sure I can answer your Imovie question bc I still edit on an old version. Imovie 06. If you have that version let me know and I’ll try to help. I think when it comes to colors and clothes – it’s the same ol’ rules. Try and avoid white, red, prints, houndstooth. Cameras read jewel tones really really well – the most important thing is wearing something comfortable and flattering.
Lizzie, these are excellent tips! You are a pure natural on camera! I love hearing what you have to say. Perfection is my biggest hang-up. We filmed 3 shows last week and after several takes, I had to just say to myself, “It’s OK!” The point you brought about about how you wouldn’t stop in the middle of a conversation with a friend to do a re-take really made me think. Great advice for sure!
Kris, I’m sooooo excited to your new show!!! The wait is killin’ me! I’m glad the vlogging tips are giving you the little extra encouragement that you need. I just shot a vlog this afternoon and totally flubbed the lines at the end. I was going to re-shoot it and then send “leave it in” – it’s me, it’s real. So, just go with it – have fun – make mistakes – people will watch bc you and Kim are talented, cute and fun to watch!!
Great tips. Ugh, I DO have a fear of Vlogging! You are a pro. Hopefully this will get me going to push my comfort zone.
Oh Emily, you’re better than you think!! If you can sing on video – you can definitely vlog!!
Hey Lizzie!
Love this! I am sooooo glad to have connected with you on Twitter! I dont have too many fears of video blogging, but I do say Ummmm and Like tons of times!! I have an extreme issue with looking at the camera…it makes me feel weird! Anyway, thanks for the tips, I hope to do more vlogging in the super near future!
