Get Your Vlog On

Hey Fabulous People! Thanks for being so patient and understanding last week. It was a crazy, nutty week. A lot of you have asked exactly what it is that I’ve been up to – and without revealing too much information – let’s just say I had a really “big” audition last week (and NO it wasn’t for Oprah’s reality show).  I can’t give any more details until they make a decision but as soon as I find out the outcome – I’ll update y’all:) In the meantime, keep those prayers coming. I need it!

Okay, so this is a week late but the top pick for last week’s “Get Your Vlog ON” goes to the lovely and talented Lorraine of AskWifey! I was lucky enough to meet Lorraine at the EVO Conference last month when she showed up in the first row of our Vlogging panel. She’s absolutely gorgeous and has the most radiant smile:)  Anyway, she just started vlogging and this video is what I call a “vlog diary.” Lorraine talks about training for marathon and how she finds time to squeeze in training even in the midst of juggling the family.

Get Your Vlog On – on Summer Break!!!

Hey guys, I hate to do this but this week is kicking my arse! No time for Get Your Vlog On or any new vlog posts until I deal with some personal matters. Don’t worry – nothing health related. Everyone is happy and healthy here. I’m just not at liberty to talk about the matters right now. Just do me a favor and cross your fingers and say a prayer:) Thanks!

How To Vlog: What Kind of Video Camera to Use

Whenever I talk to people about learning how to video blog one of the first questions they ask is “what’s the best video camera to use.” If you’re just starting out I suggest using one of the many different mini hd video cameras on the market. The mini cameras are small, easy to use and come with a u-s-b port that you can plug right into your computer to make uploading video a snap.

I’ve been using the Kodak ZI8 since it came out last year and am a huge fan of it. It’s super duper easy to use and you can buy a memory card with lots of recording space. But I think one of the coolest features of the ZI8 is the external microphone input. Which means you can buy a plug in mic and really improve the sound quality of your video interviews.

Get Your Vlog On

Hey, I’ve been thinking about making a little change to the Get Your Vlog on meme and would love your feedback. How would you feel about suggesting a theme or topic in the comments and then we all vlog about the same thing? Just to mix things up this week? Yes, no, maybe? I’ve been inspired by all the creativity by you new vloggers and thought it might be fun to have a lip sync vlog challenge? Or a dance off? Or interview your spouse? Hummmm, what do you think? Okay, this week my favorite vlog pick goes to the lovely Alexis of DepressionsandConfessions. Alexis is a new vlogger and some how talked her hubby into sitting down in front of the video camera and answering a few random questions. The discussion between them had me grossed out and laughing all at once.

Get Your Vlog On

I’m still playing catch up after my fabulous three day weekend in Park City, Utah so I’m gonna keep it short. It’s Wednesday folks and that means it’s time to show off all your vloggy skills with the rest of the us folks. I’m crossing my fingers and toes that there will be lots of new faces this week especially after we handed out 10 brand new Kodak ZI8 video cameras at the vlogging panel at the EVO10 Conference (thank you Kodak)! I can’t remember all of the winners but I do know Lorraine of AskWifey, Gina of TheMorrisBrunchBlog and Jen from NakedJen all took home new video cameras (that’s right girls I’m calling you out – pressure is on).

This week’s “Get Your Vlog On” favorite goes to one of my vloggy pals who’s been linking up just about every week. And every week she surprises me. Some times Alexes of PonderingsofaCrazyMama vlogs in her bathroom or belts out a tune and as you’ll see down below – she even dances! I haven’t been brave enough to do a “dancing” vlog but that’s because I’m scared to see how bad I really look dancing.

How to Vlog: Getting Started & Basic Tools

Over the weekend I had a fabulous opportunity to be a part of the Vlogging Panel at EVO 10 (The Evolution of Women in Social Media) in Park City, Utah.  Since my return I’ve had a lot of follow up questions about video blogging or inquiries from people who didn’t get a chance to make it to the vlogging session. How to Vlog: What to Wear

In today’s “How to Vlog” segment I talk about something my friend Yoly of YNR Live asked me about awhile back. It’s about “what to wear” while vlogging. I know the obvious answer is clothes. But there are some definite do’s and don’t’s that you might not be aware of.  For example, did you know that prints and logos are a big no-no? Or that certain colors play tricks with the camera lens? Happy Wednesday folks! You know what time it is? Time to “Get Your Vlog On!” I’m really feeling the vloggy love this week. I think it has something to do with the fact that I’m heading to the EVO (The Evolution of Women in Social Media) Conference in Park City, Utah this Thursday. How lucky am I!?

Parenting/Family Expert Joanne Stern

Now that I’m a mom I often wonder why there’s no formal training for new parents. Seriously, it’s one of the most important jobs in the world yet there’s no school for “how to be a good parent.” I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve cried myself to sleep wondering if I’m doing this parenting thing the right way.

Thank goodness I found author and psychotherapist,  Joanne Stern.  She’s helping parents like myself make sense of it all.  In her book “Parenting is a Contact Sport“, Stern gives parents 8-ways we can stay connected to our kids for life. Yes, even while we’re living in this 24/7 digital world.

Of course once I started asking Stern questions I didn’t want our interview to end. She had endless tips and information every parent can use.

Get Your Vlog On

Well, I’m hoping now that the kids are out for summer vacation you might include them in some of your vlogs? Yes, no, maybe? Mine will definitely be making an appearance or two. For those that are always wondering what to vlog about keep your video camera handy this summer – I’m sure your kids will provide plenty of fodder!
