Kim Coles Interview at Clever Girls Collective Party

OMG! I still can’t stop talking about how much fun I had at the Blogalicious Mixer hosted by Clever Girls Collective, on Sunday afternoon. The event  described as a “social media soiree” celebrating the diversity of women of all ethnicities gets an A+ in my book!  The party had everything a girl could want.  We’re talkin’ great food, wine, swag bags and a special guest that had everyone laughing their as*es off! The lovely and talented Kim Coles! She showed up to talk about her love and appreciation of the gals behind the Blogalicious Conferences and talk about why she’s been bit by the social media bug.

If you don’t know who Coles is – you’re missing out! She’s a talented sitcom actress, comedian, author and blogger. I’m not lying when I say Coles is gorgeous and gracious -  she worked the room like she was like the female Gary Vaynerchuk. She spent time talking to every person who walked up to her and was so so sweet.

Coles even spent a few minutes chatting with me on camera. We talked about why she loves twitter and facebook as well as the website, Open The Gifts she created to help other women. (*Disclaimer: I did not have my mic when I did the interview with Coles so there is a TON of background noise but It’s still a fab interview!)

I hope you were able to enjoy listening to Coles as much as I did. I LOVE that gal!!

Get Your Vlog On

Hi my Fabulous vloggy friends I owe you all an apology. I’m swamped on the home front right now and haven’t posted any new vlogs in a week. I know – what a travesty!! LOL.  Just wanted to let you know that I’m working hard on setting boundaries and taking care of myself right now and sometimes that means my vlog suffers. All this end of the school year stuff is keeping me busy along with some personal stuff  (ya know, like job hunting and auditions) – promise to fill you in all the juicy details soon.

But it’s Wednesday and that means one thing – It’s time to Get Your Vlog On!! This week I’m giving my favorite vlog award to Yoly of YNR Live . The last few weeks Yoly has shared her cooking vlogs with us but this past week I love that she shared a “how to” video on how to create your own gravatar. “How to” videos are huge – there are entire video sites dedicated to teaching people thru the use of video on how to do all kinds of things. Get Your Vlog On!

Okay peeps, if you don’t have a vlog locked and loaded – go turn on the video camera right now and shoot something! The more vloggers we get linking up – the more vloggers we meet. Kristi Yamaguchi – Olympic Gold Skater & Dancing with the Stars Winner

If you didn’t follow Kristi Yamaguchi’s illustrious ice-skating career in the 80’s and the 90’s (because you’re too young) – I’m hoping you caught her tearing up the dance floor on season five of  “Dancing with the Stars.” I’m telling you whether she’s performing on the ice or the dance floor – this gal has moves – she’s Uh-mazing!! I’ve always been in awe of her insane talents. So, you can imagine how thrilled I was when I found out I was going to get a chance to sit down and talk to her. We talked about the upcoming fundraiser for her Always Dream Foundation, last night’s big “Dancing with the Stars” winner, Nicole Scherzinger and of course how she juggles being a mom to two lovely little girls.

Okay, isn’t she a doll!!! And can I just say – I’ve spent my entire life being vertically challenged (I’m barely 5′3″) but I felt like a giant next to Kristi. When I looked at the playback of the video I laughed because she’s so darn itty bitty cute and my head looks the size of half her little body!! Oh, and special thanks to P.R. RockStar, Lori Puccinelli-Stern of Glodow Nead Communications for hooking me up with the interview!

It’s Wednesday! Get Your Vlog On

Wow, where does the time go? Another week has come and gone and it’s time to Get Your Vlog On ladies!! But before you start linking up I just want to thank every single one of you who participated last week. Some of you are becoming familiar faces around here and others are brand new – I love it!!!

There are a couple of housekeeping items I need to go over though – especially for some of the newer peeps joining in. Comment love is good – I promise it’ll make you all warm and fuzzy. Promise.  Also, I know a lot of you gals are taking part in multiple meme’s – I think that’s great. I’m huge fans of both Jennifer at Eightymphmom and Jendi at SimpleVloggingTips. They’re both lovely vloggers but we’re all doing something a little bit different. Okay, now it’s time for me to give props to my fave vlogger of the week. It wasn’t easy. I really enjoyed watching Mellisa of Getting All My Ducks In A Row tear thru all her fun freebies (a.k.a. “mail”) and reveal how she scored all the cool loot. And then there was Lua of Boarding the Mothership, she impressed me with her very editing. She used a technique called “jump cutting.” If you haven’t seen her vlog yet – go check it out – you’ll understand.  But there was one vlog that stood out from all the rest this week. It’s a vlog with absolutely no audio track!! In fact, when Valerie of Charmed Valerie told me she was linking up a vlog with no audio I had no idea what to expect but this vlog rocks. If you haven’t seen it yet – check it out. I promise you’ll be entertained and may pick up a couple of beauty tips too!! Enjoy.

Why I Love NYC & Going on a Girls Weekend!

I’m not sure if it’s because I spent soooo many years being single (fyi, I didn’t marry til my mid 30’s) or if it’s just my personality. But one of my favorite things about going away on a girls weekend is that I know I’ll get to spend some serious “alone” time. Whether I’m sitting in a cab, waiting for a flight or taking a leisurely walk – I take great pleasure in being all by myself. Don’t get me wrong, I love my girl time (as you can see in this video) but I also love just chilling out and taking in new sights all by lonesome too. It really feeds my soul.

So, tell me have you ever gone away on a “girls weekend?” If so, what was one of your favorite things to do. If not, what would be your idea of the perfect “girls weekend?”

It’s rare these days to see mom bloggers giving honest reviews talking about both the good and bad in a product – thank you for your honesty!

The Secret to Connecting With Your Viewers While Vlogging!

For those new to vlogging – one of the most important and difficult things to do is maintain steady eye contact with the camera lens. If you don’t make that connection with your viewers – you can lose them in a second. Well, no need to worry. I’ve got a secret that’s sure to help take your vlogs up a notch. Are you ready to hear what it is? If you are, click on the video below for all the details. If you’re not up for watching a quick video and want me to reveal the secret right here – then here it goes. Find a small photo of your mom or a friend and tape it to your laptop so that the image is right above the lens of your webcam on your computer. I know it sounds silly but if you tape a picture of someone you’re comfortable chatting up -  have their image right above your lens, you’ll have someone to focus on.  So, the next time you vlog, instead of staring at the itty bitty dark lens – focus on the picture you have right above your lens – it’ll make conversing on camera so much easier. Go ahead give it a try – let me know what you think.

Get Your Vlog On (Trying Again)

I don’t know about you but I know every time I plan to take a girls trip out of town all hell breaks loose on the home front. Just last week, I was trying to get ready to leave for New York and everything that could go wrong did. Is it just me or do you feel my pain sista’s? Here’s a quick vlog post of me sitting in my car outside my daughter’s ballet class trying to keep it together.

Before I go any further, I have to thank all you lovely gals who linked up here last Wednesday. I’m sooooo sorry but I had to delete the entire linky post because my site got wiped out by the link code. So, here we are one week later (with fingers & toes crossed) hoping this one will work.
